Field Trip!

Whew!  It's been a while since I've updated because we're doing some renovations on my office.  So all of my stuff has been removed (the computer) and I haven't been able to connect to the internet from here in a week or so.  So these photos are a bit old (from the 10th) but here is Parker's class on a field trip to Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area!  When we arrived there was a puppet show involving some animals and then the kids got to eat a snack and drink some juice while checking out crazy animal bones and pelts.  Then we went for a hike to check out the chickadees and try to feed them.
Bunny!
 Parker looking around.
Hanging out.
 Time for a hike!
 Checking out the woods.
 Posing for a photo.
I'm not entirely sure what he's doing here.  Being crazy?  Eating snow?
Here's one of the girls who works at the conservation area getting a chickadee to eat from her hand!  Parker and I were only able to get one.

 And another!
 And then it flew away.

Cute Baby Girl In A Cute Dress

Here's Lauren being cute in a little dress!  Awwwww....

Laughing at her best friend Parker.
Parker is like the baby whisperer.  He comes up with the weirdest things but Lauren loves them.  He invented a song that goes like this:
All in the Tonka
All in the Tonka
All day long
All in the Tonka
And it's one of Lauren's favourite things ever.  He also invented saying:
A bushica a bushica a bushica a bushica a bushica....
Over and over and she thinks it's the funniest thing in the world.  Babies love weird things!
Parker's face is hilarious in this one.

 Serious baby Lauren.
 Happy baby Lauren!

She's cute!

Playing With Yo Gabba Gabba Friends

Here are some photos of Lauren playing with the Yo Gabba Gabba friends and the little turtle car Parker bought for her before she was born!

Parental Smackdown

Parker dropped his afternoon nap about a month ago but we still go through the motions after lunch and bring him to his room, read some books, and lay him down in bed for a "rest".  He usually stays there for an hour or two and then we go get him.  Since he wasn't doing any actual sleeping, sometimes we give him a big pile of books that he quietly reads to himself.  Today when April went up to check on him, he had torn 3 pages out of Go Dog Go, the new book we just bought him!

He's never really destroyed stuff before, so we wanted to send a message that we mean business.  We took all the books out of his room and he's not allowed to have them back for a few days.  We also told him we weren't going read any stories after lunch or before bed time.  When we were first telling him about it and giving him his punishment this afternoon, he was kind of nonchalant about it.  But tonight when we went to put him to bed after his bath, it really hit home that we were serious and he wasn't going to get to read any books with us.  He started to cry a little bit and told us that he wasn't going to rip or throw his books and that he'd take care of them and be nice to them.  Even though it's hard to see him upset, it's good to know that he actually does value the books and the time we spend reading with him.  He'll get them back in a few days (probably by Saturday) and hopefully he learns an important lesson.

More Reading

Parker can read Green Eggs & Ham by himself and he just read the intro title to an episode of Toopy & Binoo ("The Great GooGoo")!  And his writing is getting better, too!  Hooray for literacy!  Of course, as I type this, he's eating a tiny pile of Hickory Sticks from a bowl using only his face.  Genius?  Maybe not......

(also, he just read most of this blog post over my shoulder before I saved it)

Real Food! Kind of.

Lauren has been increasingly interested in what we're eating, so April gave her some rice cereal last night for the first time.  It's funny how you sort of forget about spoon-feeding a baby even though it has only been a few years!  Here she is eying up the spoon.
 First spoonful ever!
 Mmmmm......
She liked it so much she ate two little bowls full of rice cereal and she was grabbing April's hand and pulling it to her mouth!
Today we decided to give her a Mum Mum Cracker, which is just a little rice biscuit that dissolves when they put it in their mouth.

I don't think she liked this quite as much as the rice cereal.  Maybe the texture freaked her out a bit.
"I SAID NO PICTURES!!!!"

Crazy Lauren!!!111eleven

Here's Lauren with crazy hair making crazy faces.

Her hair used to be dark black but now it's more of a dark brown with red tints!
